A Slow Stitch Workshop by Deena Beverley

Through innovative collage, appliqué, embroidery and mixed media art quilt techniques you’ll develop a wide ranging skillset and evolving confidence in this addictive form of portable journalling, centred around a beautiful antique bobbin, vintage fabrics and more, supplied by Deena, to which you are welcome to add your own treasures. Deena will be making this popular workshop bespoke to Cowslip by making accessible to students, her own original coastal and maritime inspired imagery for their personal use, and will also show students how to add their own coastal influenced, or other inspiration sources to their work. This calming, restorative workshop allows you to incorporate precious preloved materials; eg sentimentally significant cloth, along with methodologies for transferring images and ephemera onto fabric. Learn how to add cherished family photographs and other images to beautiful textile and mixed media art quilt journals as long as the stories you want to tell; yet which occupy little storage space. Create living heirlooms; to enjoy handling again and again. Your tuition in making these charming journals includes techniques applicable to many other applications; taught by internationally celebrated arts author and tutor Deena Beverley; renowned for her sensitive handling of colour and texture, and experience of working with vintage and found materials to create works with a sense of story. Perfect for gifting or to keep and work on throughout the year , learn how to tell tales real, imagined, or both, in found fabrics, stitch, paper and more.

Suitable for all skill levels from beginner through to seasoned stitcher, Deena’s tuition style is person centred; meeting students at their individual level. Whether you haven’t picked up a needle since childhood, or you’ve spent years stitching and want to extend your skills, Deena’s expertise, patience and passion help you make the next steps of your creative journey enjoyable and enriching. From the simple, calming rhythmic hand stitch of Japanese Boro patched quilting and Indian Kantha stitch through to 3D hand embroidery techniques for those wishing to extend their knowledge of this fascinating mixed mediaart, Deena’s courses are sought after for her encyclopaedic subject knowledge and meticulous attention to detail, whilst keeping her tuition style light, friendly and above all, enjoyable. Deena’s courses are designed as retreats from the demands of everyday life; achieving relaxation through mindful engagement with creativity. Going home with a renewed passion for making, having acquired new and enhanced skills, and with gorgeous works accomplished, are beautiful bonuses.
