Fabric: Mas d’Ousvan reproduction and Moda rustic cotton linen.
I met Fiona Wallace at Malvern and love her French fabrics Mas d’Ousvan it loosely translates to Grand Manor Home. The designer Bruno Lamy took his inspiration from old manor houses from the 17th to 19th centuries. The colours are subtle and the roses just my dream on…. type of flower, the tickings are delightful, just the sort of fabric we all love and I feel the colours are enhanced by the plain chambray linen.
I have tried to keep the design simple so you can add more fussy cut or Broderie Perse flowers or you could make the quilt in mixed colours instead of just the bluey/taupe.
Broderie Perse or fussy cut appliquè is quite quick as you can cut out the complete flower, sometimes including leaves and buds or berries and then sew it down to a background that it blends into. We also used some plain linen leaves and fussy cut butterflies. For the appliqué we use Aurifil 80 thread which is strong but so fine and one colour blends with lots of colours.
This quilt is fun and could be made in many different combinations of colour including strong bright, it is a gentle introduction to hand appliqué.
