Amazing Ammonite

Join me for a creative workshop where you’ll make a beautiful mixed media and stitch ammonite. I’ll be there to guide you at every stage, with demonstrations and hands-on support to help bring your design to life.

We’ll begin by painting an abstract background onto white muslin fabric using acrylics, setting the scene for your ammonite. From there, you’ll build a quilt sandwich before transferring the ammonite outline onto your piece. Using a variegated grey-brown thread, you’ll stitch along the template lines to create the structure of your design ( previous experience of free motion stitching is an advantage).

Next comes the exciting part – adding texture. You’ll mix ExpandIT medium with acrylic paint, apply it to your ammonite, and then use a heat gun to bring out incredible surface detail. A few extra layers of paint will help build depth and richness in your artwork.

To complete your piece, you’ll add simple hand stitching around the ammonite, bringing balance and harmony to the overall composition. By the end of the session, you’ll have a unique artwork that combines colour, stitch, and texture in a truly striking way.

The size of your finished piece will be 8” x 8”
