Above and Below the Waves
Workshop Information
A two day course to create a textile picture or wall hanging on a nautical theme. With imaginative use of scrap bag materials, fabrics and experimental stitching, develop your ideas into a dramatic seascape from which a fish might leap, a lighthouse illuminates the night sky or we are submerged beneath the waves .
The course will provide a good opportunity to explore some of those unused stitches on your machine and see others in a more creative way as well as to try out dissolvable fabric technique.
Along the way there will be plenty of help and individual advice. Templates are available for those nervous of drawing and design.
Materials List
Sewing machine
A selection of coloured threads.
A small selection of fabrics (which hopefully participants are willing to swap and share).
Natural fibres are recommended in a not too heavy weight, but a ‘mixed bag’ is fine. The tutor will be supplying some relevant fabrics as well, so don’t worry if you haven’t got all the colours you think you might need.
Scissors
A small hand sewing kit: pins, needles and a few silks for finishing touches.
Reference materials: if you have a specific idea, do bring a sketch, or a print out of a photo along.
