Strippy Landscapes – Under English Skies

For the first part of my married life I lived in Cornwall, arriving there in the hot hot summer of 1976. The landscape and climate seemed so different to those of my native Yorkshire, and a whole new appreciation of my environment was born. Since then I have lived in many places and walked many miles of path and trackway, absorbing the scenery and sketching and photographing the countryside around me as I went. Let me share my sketchbooks and jottings and quilts, and teach you how to make your own beautiful strippy landscape. Include a wide variety of fabrics and colours to make your landscape sing. Finish with sympathetic quilting by hand or machine or both.
For a girl from Yorkshire it was quite a shock I’d thought I’d gone abroad by accident! I loved the fabulous coastline with its coves and beaches and clifftop paths, and the interior with its hills and moorlands. This quilt reflects those early formative times’ gusty skies, astonishingly bright green hills and always of course, close by, the colourful wildflower verges and fields.
