Shibori Dyeing School
Workshop Information
You may work in the workshop/barn unsupervised until
8 pm on days 1,2 & 3 only for prep work and days 4 & 5 for work on your project.
NO DYEING TO TAKE PLACE UNSUPERVISED.
Shibori is the Japanese word for resist dyed fabrics. The techniques we will focus on during this course will include stitched, clamped and wrapped methods to pattern your own amazing and unique hand dyed fabrics. You will also be advised on how Shibori fabric can be used in Patchwork, Quilting and Embroidery projects, and shown many examples before starting a project during the last two days of the course.
Your retreat starts with a meet and greet session on Saturday 20th July in the evening with wine and nibbles from 6pm – 8pm. Please let us know if you have any special dietary needs such Gluten Free, allergies, cheese free etc.
This special evening event will introduce you to your tutor Janice in readiness to start work on Sunday 21st July.
Janice is an experienced international textile artist, making quilted textile hangings, she specialises in the Japanese art of Shibori (tie and dye) and has written a best – selling book on the subject. Shibori for Textile Artists was first published in 2006 followed by a second edition in 2010. The paperback version was published in November 2018.
Janice is well known as a teacher and has taught in UK since 1988 both freelance and in adult education. She has also taught internationally in Abu Dhabi, Australia, Canada, Denmark, France, Italy, Japan, New Zealand, Spain, Sweden and USA.
Janice is a former President of The Quilters’ Guild of the British Isles, was awarded the Amy Emms MBE award for services to quilting and The Jewel Pearce Patterson Scholarship for International Quilt Teachers (Houston) and holds two City & Guilds Medals of Excellence for her textile work and as a City & Guilds Lecturer. Her work is held in Museum, Public and private collections.
Janice is currently studying for a Part-time MA Textiles at University of the Creative Arts, Farnham.
