Series with surface design to include: Monoprint

Workshop Information

Price: £99.00

In this workshop you begin by making your own original and unique fabrics using simple monoprint techniques and simple stamps. The fabrics are then used to create quilts with a contemporary and graphic feel using simple geometric shapes or traditional patchwork block patterns. The quilts can be used to anything from a nap quilt, bed quilt or childs quilt to a quilt for the wall. I suggest that you keep the colours limited and bring white fabrics in different qualities. I’ll bring black textile paint and a small selection of stamps.  You will be working with: • monoprinting and stamping • geometric shapes or traditional block patterns.

RequirementsStudents will need to bring the following; • miscellaneous tools; masking tape, scissors, rotary cutter, ruler, cutting mat, needles, pins, sewing machine, template materials, apron, brushes, stamps if you have any you would like to try, sturdy plastic sheets or A4 pockets, textile paint if you have any and want to use other colours than black.• fabrics: it is very difficult to give precise instructions about what to bring as it is up to everyone to choose and create both design and size. You can either bring at least 3 m. of plain white cotton or a selection of plain cotton, cottton sateen, cotton with different textrures, woven patterns or white on white printed patterns, silks, but they need to be stable enough to piece – fabrics you would like to work with and probably at least half a metre of some of them, but be prepared to improvise and don’t despair if you haven’t got enough of a particular fabric – we will find a solution• thread; for piecing and machinequilting – probably white if you are going for a black and white result• batting; thin batting in cotton or polyester, optional 505 spray• backing fabric; white fabric as big as you hope your quilt is going to be
