A New England Barn or Birds

Workshop Information

Course Type: Workshop
Instructor: Anne Kelly
Duration: 1 Day Workshop
Price: £70.00

Join Anne Kelly to make a farmyard inspired small hanging piece. Using a combination of your favourite quilt and vintage scraps you will be shown how to design and make it. You can add some favourite animals to your piece using a simple collage technique. Your piece will then be stitched together by hand and or machine, if desired. You will leave the workshop with your hanging ready to be backed and embellished further. A full list of materials will be sent to you prior to the course.
Materials List: A New England Barn
Bring any images you have of favourite animals
Background fabric (no larger than A3 square) strong cotton or linen union
Scraps of fabric in colours that suit your animals, no stretchy or too textured ones
Barn scraps in a variety of colours, small pieces of patchwork are great
White or off -white thread for tacking
A selection of embroidery threads for machine (if desired) and hand stitching
A glue stick and pins
Buttons/beads for eyes
Ribbons, wool tops, string for embellishment
Alternatively you can choose to work on Birds which are everywhere in textile art at the moment – we will make a small bird outline using a mixture of contemporary and vintage images as source material. This will then be transferred onto fabric and used for the basis of a new piece of work. Anne will show you how to use collage to create a varied and textural interpretation of your favourite bird, using a mixture of hand and machine stitch if desired.  You will leave the workshop. It can then be incorporated into a larger piece and embellished further by hand and machine.
