Garden Birds – Mandy Pattullo
Workshop Information
You will create a unique British Bird portrait on to the base of a lovely old piece of quilt.I will provide templates of common birds so you do not need to be able to draw but I will help you draw out your own design if there is a particular bird you want to realise through this easy fabric collage technique. I will have a palette of fabrics ready for you to build up your picture and show you how to attach and blend them together through hand stitching to build up a unique picture.
STUDENT REQUIREMENTS
Sewing kit – scissors, pins, needles
Little bits of fabrics , don’t need to be much more than 5ins square as you are cutting and tearing them into even smaller bits that are bird coloured . Have an idea of what sort of bird you are going to tackle eg a blue tit requires a very different palette of fabrics than that of a wren or a blackbird. The fabrics could include cottons, synthetics, lace, sheers and pretty prints eg. Liberty offcuts. Nothing too thick though.Mandy will provide the piece of vintage quilt base on which you will work.
