Explore Creative Stitched Shibori

This two-day class will focus on Annabel’s signature style of creating pictures with stitched shibori, particularly of plants, flowers, birds, shells and landscape. Under Annabel’s guidance you will learn to stitch and shape the fabric to resist the dye (called shibori) creating extraordinary patterns. Explore the varied stitch techniques and how to successfully put them together to make beautiful designs of the natural world.
During this weekend workshop, you will start by generating several small pieces to become familiar with the different types of stitching and ways of manipulating the fabric.  She has myriad useful tips on how to work successfully and realise your design ideas. Or if you want inspiration Annabel has various outline patterns to trace as a starting off point.
The weekend gives you the time to really explore the varied ways of creating designs and allows time to compose and produce a larger piece of work perhaps a long hanging, a series of cushions, the fabric for a bag, a scarf or a lampshade. Or if you are a quilter you may want to make many varied pieces to add that something special to your own projects. Or just allow yourself time to discover new skills and experiment.
We will use Rit dyes to colour the fabric as it is quick and easy to use and something anyone can do at home, after the workshop.
The weekend is suitable for all levels of ability. A love of hand stitching is the only requirement.
There will be a charge for fabrics of £5 payable to Annabel on the day.

Requirements:
Your favourite sewing kit to includes needles, scissors and washable marker pen
apron/an old shirt
rubber gloves
a sketchbook or notebook and any images that inspire you.
You may want to bring an item of cotton/linen clothing to upcycle, decorate, and dye. (NB this must be thoroughly washed beforehand)
