Cherry Baskets

From an original design by Sachiko Yasuda this quilt which measures 70″x83″ combines simple hand applique with machine piecing. If the prospect of making 32 blocks is daunting one block makes a lovely centre panel for a cushion or a small wallhanging.  

 
Requirements:

Usual sewing kit
Rotary cutter and ruler (if available)
Sewing machine (or block can be done by hand)
One piece of template plastic/ card if you prefer
Paper scissors

Fabric:For the entire quilt you will need 4.6m of background fabric, for 1 block a 10″ square will be enough.For the baskets and applique flowers an assortment of fabrics; the handle= 1.75″ by 4.5″,the basket requires a piece no smaller than 8″ by 5″.A selection of 10″ squares works well, as this will provide scraps for flowers and leaves.
