chenille cushions or simple quilt
Workshop Information
Chenille making with a rotary cutter is simple and a good way of using up bold/bright fabrics, you will learn how to design patterns, machine and cut and then construct a simple cushion or quilt good fun and very effective, strong patterns turn into lovely subtle cushions. We have made a lovely cow quilt which is just being quilted, but boats and hearts and the union flag work really well too, a good way to use up fabrics that you may be find to strong in colour as it transforms them into something special.
STUDENT REQUIREMENTS
Sewing machine in good working order and instruction book.
Slash rotary cutter or small sharp scissors, we have them for you to borrow or buy
Fabrics – COTTON
1 Fat quarter of very big bold pattern for the top square, and then 1m of a plain fabric, you need five layers of fabric in total, four to go under the top layer and you are going to cut an approx 12” – 15” square so you can use 4 layers of the same fabric or just use up what isn’t your favorite as you don’t actually see it. We quite often put the bottom layer as a bold plain that co- ordinates or enhances your top fabric. A top layer of a very big bold pattern that you don’t necessarily like can look stunning once it is all cut up!!!!!
Or if wishing to make a boat cushion bring colours for the boat sails mast etc a fat q for the sky and sea and then four layers to go underneath pale blue would work well with possibly a strong blue as the last layer.
Basic sewing kit – to include threads, paper and fabric scissors
Pens, pencils, notebook, Pritt-stick, cardboard (cereal box will do)
