Enjoy a hand applique and hand piecing class with Margaret as she takes you through her tips and techniques to needle-turn smooth curves and neat points to your applique shapes. Learn the essentials of template use, accurate fabric marking, needle-turn applique and hand piecing.
Margaret chats a lot about fabric, so spending a day with her is always beneficial as you’ll hear how she carefully gathers her quilt fabrics and works with colour and pattern to create reproduction quilts which are refreshingly light.
SKILL LEVEL All levels welcome including beginners
If you prefer, you may wish instead to start a hand pieced or hand appliqued quilt from Margaret’s new book Quilts from la Gare and Other Mewsings, published by Quiltmania.
Class Notion and Sewing Kit requirements will be the same. Please bring fabric as per project requirements.

Students to bring to class
Cream Floral Print for pieced blocks 1.4 m
Cream fabric for applique background, can have a fine print 1.2 m
Brown print incl. binding 1.75 m
Assorted prints for pieced blocks o A selection of pieces approx. 7” x 7” Or larger for fussy cutting.
 
 
All prints, colours and scale will be used
Blue for applique stems Fat 1/4
Fabric for Teapot Fat 1/8
Basket fabric Fat 1/8
A selection of scraps suitable for appliqued berries and leaves
 
NOTIONS and Sewing kit
2 x Scissors ~ one pair for fabric and one small pair for applique which must be sharp and with a fine point for snipping curved applique seams.
 
thread to blend with your fabrics (I prefer Wonderfil Efina for hand applique and piecing)
3B pencil for marking fabric and pencil sharpener and Bohin marker in white and pink colours
Sandpaper board OR Design Mat to keep fabric from slipping while marking.
Fine pins. Needles for hand applique. 1/4” bias maker for stems
One sheet of template plastic if not purchasing templates
