Using a Full Size Cartoon/drawing to Plan an Original Quilt Design

Whether you wish to depict a much loved landscape or some other realistic subject, or you long to capture an abstract thought, or adapt a traditional pattern but you lack the means to make a start, using the liberating approach of a full size cartoon is one answer. Come to this class with ideas and we will work together to make them a reality. The class covers all that is needed for the preparation and use of cartoons. Students may choose to work on one design and push it as far as possible, considering colour, fabric choice and technique as individually necessary. Or they can divide their attention in several directions. It is possible that no sewing will be done, but this does not mean that ultimately the sewing has to be slow; the time will have been invested in thought and preparation. There are many wonderful stratagems for quick results in quiltmaking, tempting and useful but often formulaic. Achieving something original is not always fast, it can feel risky, but it is immensely exciting and fruitful for future possibilities. The image shown is an example of what could be acheived but the whole point of the class is that every quilt will be personal and individual.
