Christmas Housey Housey Class- Jo Colwill

Copy or take as inspiration one of my Christmas Quilts, either repeating a house block to make a naive type of quilt or make a more individual  appliquéd story wallhanging like ‘Christmas on the farm’ with animals, people, houses or a church etc… I just love appliqué and there will be several different versions, but you will learn simple applique techniques including template free hand applique, I will also demonstrate bonded appliqué, you could just take one shape and make some applique napkins and table runner or cloth or make a little picture story quilt.
STUDENT REQUIREMENTS
· Basic sewing kit to include: paper and fabric scissors, pins, sewing threads to match or grey or colour to blend with all, for piecing, also to match your appliqué fabric, Basic rotary cutting equipment if available etc.  Sewing machine in good working order with instruction book.  Pencils and note book
· For the first quilt you need some little picture approx 2” sq to go in the centre of the log cabin and then backgound fabric for the centre appliqué possibly a snow or star darkish sky.
· FABRICS: for snowflakes you need :  ½ to 1m of each : pale/white/snow fabric, a dark contrast (perhaps navy or dark grey dots or stars),  for the pieced trees and snowmen and possibly a house or two you need a selection of warm winter checks/little prints adding up to 1m ie 4 fat quarters.
· EMBROIDERY THREADS: silver grey cotton Perlé for stitch trees or hand sewing metallic.
     . If wishing to do Christmas on the farm or more personal quilt then selection of blue sky, spring greens checks plaids for barns and buildings.  Blacks whites      creams for sheep and cows, fine cord old check shirts etc are good for buildings.
