Origami Windmills – Lynne Edwards

Workshop Information

Price: £47.50

A new origami twist on a Cathedral Window windmill design.

This is stitched in three different ways, one with rolled-back curved edges, one with Cathedral Window style windows added and the other stitched as a simple outline on plain fabric. These may be combined to make the red and cream quilt, or each block framed with sashing and joined to make a larger quilt. A stunning and easy technique, especially when used with striped or check fabrics.

Requirements
1. For the Red and Cream project – A fat quarter each of 3 coordinating fabrics, to include one solid colour and one striped plus one other.  I used red as the base colour for this team of fabrics, but any colour would be fine.
½ yd or metre of a plain fabric to be used for the stitched blocks.  This could be a light colour, as in my quilt, or it could be dark and the stitching done in a contrasting light thread.
Regular sewing thread in a shade to match the chosen fabric, plus embroidery thread for the hand-stitched block.
2. For the scrap shirting style design, a selection of different checks and striped shirting type fabrics, as many as possible.  You may only make a few blocks in the class, but might want to make a much larger project from these later.
2 fabrics to be used alternately as the borders on each block  – ½ yd or metre of each.
3. General hand-sewing equipment.
4. Rotary cutting equipment plus a sewing machine if desired (the blocks can be initially stitched by hand or machine, with the curved edges stitched by hand.
