Building Pyramids – Susan Denton

Workshop Information

Price: £60.00

The ‘1000 Pyramids’ pieced pattern is an old one but remains intriguing offering many engaging finished results from the single repeating shape. This class will begin to explore size variation and colour value use within this traditional pattern and the equilateral triangle.
Requirements.
Fabric. This pattern can be made with scraps or you can buy new fabric specifically for it; larger pieces of fabric can make the cutting quicker but they are not essential. How much you bring depends on whether you wish to start a particular object and what is it to be, a cushion or a bed quilt? The pattern can be made with very few fabrics but you can achieve far more flexibility, complexity and interest with many fabrics. I suggest you bring a minimum of 8 to 10 different fabrics and remember the more fabrics you have the easier it is to add more at a later stage. You can work with as few or as many colours as you wish. Choose fabrics that you like together and ensure that you have a mixture of values, that is lights, mediums and darks. If you want, for example, a light over-all result this does not mean you have to use very dark fabrics, just some a bit darker than others; visa versa if you want a generally dark result. There are all sorts of possibilities!

Scissors. Also Rotary Cutter and board if you have them.
Grid Ruler and 60 degree triangle cutting if you have them.
Cardboard or plastic for templates, especially if you are not using a grid 60 degree triangle.
Usual small sewing kit.
A piece of felt, flannel or similar (white or grey, not coloured) upon which you can place the arrangement of triangles as you cut and plan and which you can use to transport the work home undisturbed.
Sewing Machine, OPTIONAL. This workshop will concentrate on planning and cutting but if you would like to have a go at a bit of sewing you will be able to a little. I will also do a small demonstration if people wish me to. If you do bring a machine make sure it is in good working order, that you have the foot pedal and bring a ¼” foot if you have one.
