Boro – Ranru

Workshop Information

Course Type: Workshop
Instructor: Vivien Prideux
Duration: 1 Day
Price: £65.00

‘Boro’ is the American  generic word  for the original ‘Ranru’ cloth –  the Japanese word for a dusty cloth!
Ranru the ‘dusty cloth’ was born out of rural poverty and the necessity to use any cloth available as long as  it size  ‘covered a bean’.  Cloth revered and nothing wasted.
Patches of cloth laid over old cloth to mend / cover holes in –  futon covers, jackets, trousers, shoes and all held in place with Sashiko darning.
Well will spend the day making our own Boro – Ranru!
Turn out the ‘scrap bag’, and bring your favourite pieces and give them another life!

STUDENTS are asked to bring the following
Any Indigo  – dyed –  Shibori –  fabrics.    +  complementary coloured fabrics
Hand sewing kit –  pins – scissors, needle case,  stranded cotton /sashiko threads
Sketchbook and pencil
There will be beautiful examples of Ranru and Japanese cloths & sashiko needles.
