Collections & The altered Journal

 
During the workshop you will be using vintage hard back books to create your very own usable memory Journal, diary, scarp book or wedding journal…. We are asking you as the participants to bring along items from your own collections to inspire your work on the day…these may be something passed down from your family or an item you are passionate about collecting. There will be old books provided for you on the day to use but really it is quite fun to collect your own books…enjoy a rummage in your local charity shop or market, and bring something special with you on the day. Any size is good and bring a few so you have a choice. 
You will learn the following during the workshops.*preparing the pages and the book.*Creating pages both from paper and fabric.*Collage and applying detail to the front of your book (a title).*Creating an embroidered sash for your book.*Creating a narrative and theme for your book*Simple embroidery and applique techniques like both primmy and Jessie use in there work.*Simple printing with Jessie’s hand illustrated rubber stamp collection on to both paper and fabric.Using items from your personal collections, you will assemble a stitched and collaged Book inside and around a vintage hard back book.
Students requirements:
You will need to bring a basic sewing kit, paper and fabric scissors, assorted sewing threads and any old books.  Please also bring buttons, beads, cuttings, words,Papers, old envelopes, fabric found objects something that your family have passed down to you…a favorite quote Show us what you collect and enjoying creating a personal memory book.
